FAQs

Find answers to common questions

How does this reduce Ammonia?
The measurement of the difference between the Magellan tradition slatted shed with slurry pit shows a 42 % reduction in ammonia emanations which equates to 7,5 kg/NH3 /cow/year. The depth of urine calculated on the product was 0,35 mm on average. Magellan flooring works to reduce ammonia by reducing the surface area where liquid is present. Magellan flooring is made up of 100mm platforms and 25mm channels that interchange; This creates a system where the liquid can drain and be separate from the manure. The surface of the platforms consists of narrow sloping channels to aid fast flowing drainage of liquid. Regular scraping is recommended to prevent build-up. By reducing the surface area where urine is present you are reducing the surface area where ammonia can be emitted.
How is it installed?
Magellan rolls are cut to lengths. This means there will be no joints, making it more secure. Installation begins from the centre of the passage where the scraper centre is situated. The grooves are positioned to slope towards the drainage pit. The Magellan is fixed to the floor using stainless stell fixings, tension is then applied to ensure the Magellan lies tight against the ground. The rubber is secured every 20inches. Installing the slope beneath the cubicle beds require the PE slopes to be cut to size. These interlock. The Magellan is unrolled upside-down and fastened with stainless steel fixings. Remaining expansion joints are filled using AIRE REM kit (Latex)
Can I fit this product to a slatted shed?
The Magellan can be installed as a retrofit in an existing building to cover existing concrete or other types of surfaces including slatted flooring.
How is the product scraped?
A specially designed scraper attached has been developed to suit the grooves of Magellan flooring
